Petrel Energy Limited (ASX Code: PRL) is an Australian-based petroleum exploration and development company with projects in the USA and Australia. The group was formed by the merger of Orion Petroleum Limited and the private company Petrel Energy Pty Limited in January 2012 with the enlarged entity changing its name to Petrel Energy Limited.

Petrel’s strategic focus is to pursue high quality energy assets at an advanced stage of exploration/appraisal and create shareholder value by progressing these projects to development. The group will benefit from a highly experienced management team with a proven track record in the energy sector both in conventional and unconventional petroleum with particular expertise in building successful energy businesses in North America and Australia.

Petrel has exploration assets in Northern New South Wales with both conventional and coal seam gas (CSG) prospectivity.  The company has also recently acquired a working interest in an emerging onshore shale gas development project in the proven Barnett Shale play in the Forth Worth Basin, Texas.
